All drains in the home converge to a single pipe that leads to the septic tank buried outside, combining waste water from your toilet, shower, sink and washing machine. In the septic tank, the different waste water tends to separate, with the heaviest particle matter in the waste called sludge, sinking to the bottom. At the top of the tank, fats, oils and proteins form the floating scum layer, the middle clear liquid layer is called effluent or grey water.
These three components together are called septage.
Septic systems are designed so that only the effluent is discharged from the tank into the drain field (the leach field). A set of pipes with holes drilled into them that release the effluent below ground, degraded enough to be well filtered by good soil, and acts as a fertilizer.
Septic systems are a large investment and must be
taken seriously.
Though sadly, with most people, the system is "out of
sight" so it's also "out of mind.". Maintaining your septic system is like changing the
oil in your vehicle. if you don't change it regularly, it will
lead to costly problems down the line and eventually failure. Not maintaining your septic tank system is a very bad idea and will cost you much more in the long run.
We say that a little bit of
prevention is worth a lot in the long run, and with a thorough inspection, problems
can be often be caught while they are still relatively minor and easily
repairable. If left untreated & unmaintained these small septic tank problems will probably only get worse with
time..
Typically with a septic system, by the time a problem has surfaced, the damage has already been done, and maintenance and additives may not resolve the problem. This can lead to costly repairs, or even a new system.
Maintain it or you'll end up having to replace it. Call us now to reduce the risk.
